After the outbreak of World War II, Nomura became the first in Japan to sell investment trusts, which the company had researched extensively. This helped to stabilize the stock market. However, the war intensified as international tensions rose. In August 1945, when the war ended, the GHQ occupation of Japan began. Nomura faced tough demands amid the dissolution of the Zaibatsu. Before the war, Nomura became the first to sell investment trusts in Japan, taking inspiration from the U.K. While waiting for the reopening of the exchanges in a decimated post-war Japan,the company contended with the GHQ to preserve the Nomura name and ensure the revival of the Japanese economy.
